For those of you who don't already know, Lorelei just released an ebook called Asymmetry Made Easy, which I just had to buy. It was way too late last night, and I didn't have the time this morning - but I can't wait to read it! A quick peek revealed that it's going to be very fun & helpful. I really struggle with asymmetry and while I get the concept, I have a hard time doing it. I can't wait to see what the master has to say about it! Meanwhile, I made this necklace over the weekend with one of my long-hoarded Golem pendants. I figured since I just got a few new ones, it was time to let one of the older ones go. This is the first time (but surely not the last) that I've put waxed linen cording together with sari, and I like it.
Beautiful. I love how you have bound the silk with the linen cord, and how you have so perfectly picked out the colours from the pendant in your bead choice. I have bought that ebook too - no surprises there, eh?!
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, guess what came in the post today?! :-) Thanks so much, it is beautiful! THANK YOU. I keep checking out the Golem Europe shop, is never seems as well stocked as the US one, which I can't figure out as they actually live and work in Bulgaria! Ah well. It suits you well so I will just keep looking at your designs. I hope the bracelet reaches you soon - I only managed to post it at the end of last week though so it will maybe take a wee bit longer.
I just love your display props, they are so cool and rustic! I always think that whenever I see your pictures. And I have a feeling that you and asymmetry will get on very well one you find your comfort zone within it. One thing that I have tried as a first step to asymmetry, is to design a symmetrical necklace, then reverse the order of the beads on one side....sometimes takes a bit of playing around with bead sizing, but I have found it a good place to start in my very inexperienced eyes! Good luck...
Thanks for the mention Heidi!! You'll have to let me know what you think of it when you get some time to take a look. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHeidi - great design! Love the colors and the use of the Sari silk w/the waxed linen - it's perfect! And, congrats to Lorelei on her new e-book. How cool!!
ReplyDeleteI can see why you wanted to keep those beads. The little birds are adorable!
ReplyDeleteI like the waxed linen with the sari silk, too. Having the ribbon in the back is a great idea -- I bet it's really comfortable (says the girl with ridiculously sensitive skin).
Wow, love the necklace, the components are all so well balanced. The pendant is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI struggle with asymmetry as well! Can't wait to hear what you think about the book. Your necklace is beautiful, the perfect color combination!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I really like this kind of jewelry, thanks allot for share this.

that necklace is so cute! love the colors.
ReplyDeletethe other day i bought three mini cupcakes as a birthday treat for a friend. two of the mini cupcakes were white and one was chocolate. the lady put all three mini cupcakes in one small rectangular box and line them up in a row in this order: white, white, chocolate. i DIED. how could you not put the brown one in the middle between the two whites?! WHO DOES THAT?! i made her change it. lol.
anywhoo, i like symmetry. sometimes asymmetry can work, too, but it is a bit trickier to get it right.
